M&W Charity Wine Tasting

The thrid annual M&W Charity Wine Tasting has been set for Oct 26th at the Bakery Cafe on Dauphin Street. The Sunday afternoon event will be from 2:00 to 5:00. As with past events, tickets will be limited to 250 and sold on a first ordered basis. This year's event will again include over 50 wines to be sampled, heavy hors d'oeuvres from the Bakery Cafe, lots and lots of raffle door prizes and the "Deal or No Deal" draw down contest. Last year's event raised almost $10,000 for the USA Children's & Women's Hospital Class Act Program. That program provides a classroom and two full time teachers at the hospital. It allows children to get attendance credit for school they miss while in the hospital. In 2006 the event raised the final $8,500 needed to complete the M&W and Central Presbyterian Church "mid-town playground project." M&W had pledged $25,000 to the church for the construction of a playground on property owned by the church and beside the M&W offices. This year's beneficiary will be the Mobile Bar Association's Volunteer Lawyer Program (formerly known as the Pro Bono Program.) The VLP is recognized as one of the country's top pro bono programs and almost 60% of area lawyers donate their time and resources to this project.
